What is bad credit?
Whenever you buy something that does not require immediate payment but where the payments are spread over a number of months you are entering into a credit agreement.
This might be on an interest-free basis or you might pay interest within your monthly repayments.
Examples of these types of agreements are mortgages, loans, credit cards, mobile phones, catalogues etc.
Your monthly repayments will be due by a set date each month and providing you make the repayment in full by the due date you will continue in good credit.
If you should miss making payments or make payments late this is noted on your credit file and can be seen by lenders. This is the start of a bad credit history.
If things get worse and lenders take you to court you could end up with a ccj (county court judgement) against you or even multiple ccjs. Again this will show up on your credit file.
Mortgage lenders want to know that you will make the monthly repayments on time. A bad credit history showing you failing to make payments will mean they will either turn the application down or apply punitive interest rates and terms and conditions.
